Biography
French-Canadian baritone William Desbiens was born in Québec City, Canada in 1997.In the season 2023/24, he performed the role of Figaro in ‘’The barber of Seville’’ by Rossini at the “Theater und Orchester Heidelberg” as well as at the ‘’Landestheater Linz’.
In Heidelberg healso sang the roles of Pantalone and Farfarello from ‘’The love of the three oranges’’ by Prokofiev.
He was a member of Mascarade Emerging Artists (MEA) programme from 2021 and with the beginning of the season 2024 he will join the international opera studio of Staatsoper Hamburg.
William Desbiens already performed at the Teatro la Fenice during his work at MEA.
Among others, he performed the roles of Il Conte di Almaviva from ‘’Le nozze di Figaro’’, Dandini from ‘‘La Cenerentola’’, Silvio from ‘’Pagliacci’’.
He graduated with a BM at the Mannes School of
Music in New York under his teacher Arthur Levy and worked also in masterclasses with baritone Sherrill Milnes.
In September 2022, he was a finalist in the Vincerò World Singing
Competition in Naples, Italy. In January of the same year, he was one of the finalists at the Paris Opera Competition (Ciopera) at the Palais Garnier. In 2021, he received the Director's award of
the James Toland Vocal Arts Competition, USA.
