The Welsh tenor, Timothy Richards, studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music and at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.

In 1998, he made his professional operatic debut as Alfredo in La Traviata for Welsh National Opera. Invitations to perform in Basel, Innsbruck, and Oslo followed.
His engagement as Italian tenor in Der Rosenkavalier at the Semperoper Dresden was the beginning of his career in Germany. Since then, Timothy Richards appears in the leading tenor roles at houses such as the National Opera Oslo, Royal Danish Opera Copenhagen, the state operas of Leipzig and Stuttgart, Grand Opera Poznan, Glyndebourne Opera, as well as numerous other renowned opera houses and festivals throughout Europe, such as the Spoleto Festival in Italy.

The centre of his repertoire is the famous Italian and French Opera, including the roles of Rodolfo/La Bohème, Duke/Rigoletto, Ricardo/Un Ballo in Maschera, Pinkerton/Madama Butterfly, Cavaradossi/Tosca, Luigi/Il Tabarro, Don José/Carmen, Hoffmann/The Tales of Hoffmann, Werther/Werther, and Italian singer/Der Rosenkavalier. He also sings the roles of Hans in Die verkaufte Braut and The Prince in Rusalka.

Beside his engagements on the opera stage, Timothy Richards is a much sought-after concert tenor as well. He gave concerts with orchestras such as the BBC National Orchestra, the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz, and the MDR Symphonieorchester in the Royal Albert Hall, Bridgwater Hall, St. Davis Hall, and at Philharmonie Essen.

His past engagements include Les Contes d’Hoffmann at Theater Bielefeld, Rusalka at Staatstheater Wiesbaden, La Bohème at Staatsoper Berlin, and Jules Massenet’s Werther in Salzburg. Further, he made his debut as Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly at the English National Opera in London. Timothy Richards maintains a close relationship with the Komische Oper Berlin, where he was particularly successful under the stage direction of Sebastian Baumgarten, Barrie Kosky, and Andreas Homoki.

Recent highlights include the Perm State Opera, where he sang the title role in The Tales of Hoffmann for which he was nominated for the Golden Mask Festival in Russia, Prince/Rusalka as well as Don José/Carmen at Komische Oper Berlin, his return as Erik/Der fliegende Holländer in Barcelona, and the roles of Pinkerton/Madama Butterfly in Wuppertal, Pollione/Norma in Prague, and Walter/Loreley in St. Gallen.

In the season 2017/18 Timothy Richards already has sung Gustavo/Un ballo in maschera at Nationaltheater Mannheim and Les contes d’Hoffmann in Perm.
On the concert stage he can be heard singing the tenor part in Beethoven’s Symphony no 9 with the Tonkünstler-Orchester under chief conductor Yutaka Sado at Vienna’s Musikverein.
Further future engagements include Manrico/Il trovatore in St. Gallen as well as An Italian singer/Der Rosenkavalier at the Komische Oper Berlin.
