Biography
Scott MacAllister was born in Glenwood Springs, Colorado and studied at the University of Idaho (Bachelor of Music), followed by studies at the New England Conservatory of Music, where he graduated with distinction (Master of Music).After an engagement at the Western Opera San Francisco, Scott MacAllister went to Europe, where he spent four seasons at the Royal Opera de Wallonie in Liège before being offered parts in Germany, where engagements led him to Stadttheater Würzburg, Nationaltheater Mannheim, and Staatstheater Wiesbaden. Here he performed roles such as Hoffmann/The Tales of Hoffmann, Riccardo/Un ballo in maschera, Max/Der Freischütz, and Alwa/Lulu.
Since 2004, the tenor has stood out especially in the dramatic roles of the Strauss- and Wagner fach, including in the roles of Herodes/Salome, Bacchus and Apollo/Ariadne auf Naxos, Apollo/Daphne, Kaiser/Frau ohne Schatten, Luzio/Das Liebesverbot, Erik/Der fliegende Holländer as well as Tannhäuser, Lohengrin, Parsifal, and Siegfried/Siegfried.
Guest engagements led him to renowned opera houses such as the Opera Washington, Opéra National de Paris, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Prinzregententheater in Munich, Semperoper in Dresden, and Hamburgische Staatsoper as well as to Peking, Sydney, Santa Fe, Helsinki, Savonlinna, Lisbon, Strasbourg, Amsterdam, Trieste, Bari, Zürich, Berlin, Stuttgart, Leipzig, Cologne, Frankfurt, Essen, Düsseldorf, Innsbruck, Bonn, Darmstadt, Nuremberg, and Kiel.
Recent highlights include the title role in Dalibor at Staatstheater Ausgburg, Florestan/Fidelio in Innsbruck, Bacchus/Ariadne auf Naxos at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Siegmund//Siegfried in Der Ring an 1 Abend (Wagner/Loriot) as well as Hoffmann/Les Contes d’Hoffmann in Meiningen, the title role in Zemlinsky’s Der Zwerg at Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, 1st Armoured Man/Die Zauberflöte and Francisco Borgia in Krenek’s Karl V at Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, and Tannhäuser/Tannhäuser in Darmstadt.
In addition to his numerous operatic roles, Scott MacAllister’s repertoire comprises several oratorical works as well, including Verdi’s Requiem, Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony and Christus am Ölberge, Mahler’s 8th Symphony, Bruckner’s Te Deum, Puccini’s Messa di Gloria, and Britten’s War Requiem. Concert engagements led him to cities such as Tokyo, Rome, and Turin.
Upcoming engagements include 1st Jew in Warlikowski’s production of Salome under the baton of Kirill Petrenko, as well as 1st Armoured Man and 2nd Priest/Die Zauberflöte at Bayerische Staatsoper Munich.
