BiographyBefore completing her vocal studies with Christiane Hossfeld at the Hochschule für Musik in Dresden, Anna Palimina studied piano and chamber music at her hometown Chisinau, Moldova. Her first engagement led her to the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich, afterwards moving on to become an ensemble member at the Opera Cologne. Her roles included, among others, Konstanze/Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Zerbinetta/Ariadne auf Naxos, Gilda/Rigoletto, as well as the role of Sierva Maria/Love and Other Demons by Peter Eötvös. Furthermore, she debuted at the Staatsoper Stuttgart as Adele/Die Fledermaus in the production by Philipp Stölzl and gave guest performances at the the National Theater of Prague, where she sang in Mysliveček’s L‘Olimpiade conducted by Václav Luks.
Today, Anna Palimina is working freelance, but still regularly guests at the Opera Cologne; recently as Morgana in Händel’s Alcina, Adina/L’elisir d’amore, Pamina/Zauberflöte as well as in the new production of Arabella as Zdenka under the baton of Stefan Soltesz. Another highlight was her debut at the Staatstheater Wiesbaden where she sang all “4 women” in the Tales of Hoffmann. In the season of 2015/16, Anna Palimina made her debut at the Semper Opera Dresden in the role of Ännchen/Freischütz, and made another guest appearance in Cologne in the title role of Carl Orff’s Die Kluge.
In the season 2016/17 she made her debut at the Teatro Real in Madrid in La Clemenza di Tito under Christophe Rousset, was a guest in Bonn (e.g. as Pamina/Die Zauberflöte), sang the soprano parts of The Creation at concerts in Hamm und Siegen as well as in Rihm’s Deus Passus in Utrecht under the baton of Markus Stenz, and in Viviers Trois airs pour un opéra imaginaire with the Ensemble Intercontemporain in Paris.
In the season 2017/18, Anna Palimina will be back on both the opera and the concert stage and can be heard at Opera Cologne, where she embodies Carolina in Cimarosa‘s Il matrimonio segreto.
Her concert projects with classic repertoire as well as contemporary music, her specialty, include engagements with ensembles such as the Collegium Novum, the Gürzenich-Orchestra Cologne, the Ensemble Intercontemporain, the Basel Sinonietta, and the Ensemble Modern, with whom she performed works by Vivier, Adés, Grisey, and Rihm with conductors such as Peter Rundel, Markus Stenz, Jonathan Stockhammer, and Steven Sloane in Basel, Zürich, Amsterdam, Cologne, Frankfurt, as well as at the Salzburg Festival.
