Biography

Lothar Odinius is one of the most renowned concert- and opera singers of the recent generation of singers.  With a repertoire that ranges from Baroque to the Contemporary he has earned international reputation. He is a regular guest at all major international festivals and in all the important concert halls of Berlin, Vienna, Milan, London, and New York and works with conductors such as Ivor Bolton, Adam Fischer, Emmanuelle Haïm, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Thomas Hengelbrock, Philippe Herreweghe, Andrew Manze, Sir Neville Marriner, Marc Minkowski, Kirill Petrenko, Hans-Christoph Rademann, Helmuth Rilling, András Schiff, Peter Schreier, Andreas Spering, Christian Thielemann, and Franz Welser-Möst.
 
He is equally at ease singing opera, and was a guest with the most renowned opera houses such as the Zurich Opera House, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Opéra National de Paris as well as at the Festivals in Schwetzingen, Glyndebourne, and Bayreuth. Central to his repertoire are all the important Mozart roles, from the lyric Tamino to the more dramatic Idomeneo.
 
Highlights of the season 2016/17 include Herzog Guido von Urbino/Eine Nacht in Venedig at Opéra de Lyon, Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria/Giove a. Anfinomo under Emmanuelle Haïm at Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Froh/Das Rheingold under Thomas Hengelbrock and with the NDR Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Dortmund, and Baden-Baden, Bach’s St. John Passion in Paris (also under Thomas Hengelbrock), Haydn’s Creation/Uriel under Sir Roger Norrington in Kiel,  Schubert’s Winterreise in the chamber music version in Lisbon, works by Telemann and Händel at the Dresden Semper Opera, Mahler’s Das klagende Lied in Madrid, as well as, most recently, Mozart’s C Minor Mass under Bernard Labadie at Vienna’s Konzerthaus.

Also in the season 2017/18, Lothar Odinius is active on both the concert and opera stage. His projects include, among other things, Beethoven’s Missa solemnis under Steven Sloane as part of the Ruhrtriennale, his return to the Elbphilharmonie with Mozart’s Requiem and with chief conductor Thomas Hengelbrock at the conductor’s stand, as well as Haydn’s Creation also with Thomas Hengelbrock and the Balthasar-Neumann Choir in Dortmund, Luxemburg, Baden-Baden, Hannover, and Düsseldorf. Operatic engagements include the roles of Herzog Guido von Urbino/Eine Nacht in Venedig in the production by Peter Langdal in Graz and Tito/La clemenza di Tito in Gent and Antwerp.

Haute Couture. Operetta magic in Graz and on tour with Haydn's Creation
Lothar Odinius can currently be seen and heard as Herzog Guido von Urbino in Peter Langdal’s staging of Eine Nacht in Venedig at Opera Graz. The co-production with Opéra de Lyon already enjoyed great popularity, and the success will most certainly continue next year. Coming performances: December 17th/20th/22nd/31st, January 10th/19th/24th/, February 15th and March 02nd.
Subsequently, he will be on stage in the title role of the new production of La clemenza di Tito in Gent (May 06th/08th/11th/13th) and Antwerp (May 23rd/25th/27th/30th as well as June 01st and 03rd). Stefan Montanari will be directing this staging by Michael Hampe.
In the concert field, Lothar Odinius can be heard as Uriel in Haydn’s The Creation with the Balthasar-Neumann-Choir under Thomas Hengelbrock in the following cities: Dortmund (02.02), Luxembourg (03.02.), Baden-Baden (04.02.), Hannover (05.02.), and Düsseldorf (06.02.)
