The Opera seasons of 2010 to 2012 are filled with diverse role debuts for Franziska Gottwald, such as Sesto in Mozart's "La Clemenza di Tito" at Köln Opera, Prinz Orlofsky in Johann Strauss' "Die Fledermaus" at Stuttgart state theater and the title role in Handel's "Ariodante" at Basel theater. In the spring of 2012, she reprises her role as Ruggiero in Handel's "Alcina", once again as a guest artist in Köln. She has established her popularity in Basel in recent years through her highly acclaimed performances as Cherubino in Mozart's "Le Nozze di Figaro" and as Alcina in Vivaldi's "Orlando furioso". Franziska Gottwald embodies many different roles in baroque opera productions, at international music festivals, in theaters such as La Fenice in Venezia, Teatro Arriaga in Bilbao, in Ferrara, Modena or Piacenza. The results of some of these performances can be found on DVD, like Vivaldi's "Motezuma" and Galuppi's "L'Olimpiade". Earlier in her career, she undertook the roles of Hänsel, Cherubino and Frau Reich ("Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor") as a member of the Deutsche National Theater in Weimar. In addition to the great vocal works of the baroque, her career as a concert soloist encompasses a diverse repertoire to include Mozart's "Messe in c moll", Mendelssohn's "Elias", Verdi's "Requiem", Mahler's "Lied von der Erde" and Debussy's "Proses Lyriques". This facet finds her performing in Europe, Asia, Africa and North America in the great concert halls of the Barbican in London, Leipziger Gewandhaus, Zürich's Tonhalle and Konzerthaus in Wien to mention a few. She was also featured in solo evenings with orchestra in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam or the Berlin Philharmonic Hall. Franziska Gottwald, winner of the Internationale Bachwettbewerb Leipzig, works with many prominent conductors such as Fabio Biondi, Herbert Blomstedt, Alan Curtis, Nicholas McGegan, Reinhard Goebel, Enoch zu Guttenberg, Fabio Luisi, Alessandro de Marchi, Andrea Marcon, Hans-Christoph Rademann, Jean Christoph Spinosi and Ton Koopman. She performs as a soloist with the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, Venice Baroque Orchestra, Concertgebouw Orchestra, Musica Antiqua Köln, Akademie für Alte Musik, Gewandhaus Orchester Leipzig and the Bamberger Symphoniker. The artist can also be heard on numerous broadcast- and CD-productions, such as Handel's "Samson" under the direction of Nicholas McGegan, the ECHO award winning recording of Mendelssohns' "Elias" under the direction of Christoph Spering and the complete Brahms duets for soprano, alto and piano with Letizia Scherrer and Ferenc Bognar. She also appears on several of the Edison Award-winning recordings of the complete Cantatas of J. S. Bach by Ton Koopman. 2012
